TEAM 303 PROJECT
Grand Tour veteran and former Team Dimension Data rider set to join emerging 303 project for 2019 U.S. Pro season
Boulder, CO, Wednesday, January 2, 2019… Johann van Zyl, a three-year, UCI World Tour rider with Team Dimension Data, has signed to ride for 303 project in 2019, it was today announced by the Boulder, CO-based team’s owner and manager, Nicholas Greeff. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
van Zyl, 27, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, has been riding professionally since the age of 21, and for the past three years he has ridden with Team Dimension Data on the World Tour. His palmares include four Grand Tours (La Vuelta a España (2) & Giro d’Italia (2)), and five Classics, including the 2018 edition of Paris-Roubaix. In 2018, van Zyl started a combined total of 21 one-day and stage races, and he finished 17thamong the General Classification in the Le Tour de Langkawi.
van Zyl is no stranger to U.S. pro cycling, as his diverse riding talents were on display during the 2015 Amgen Tour of California. In that stage race, he finished fifth overall in the mountains classification and he finished 13thduring the Stage 6 individual time trial. Also, in 2015, he rode in the Tour of Utah, where he finished third overall in the mountains classification and 13thoverall in the points classification.
Prior to joining Team Dimension Data, van Zyl rode professionally with South Africa’s MTN-Qhubeka team. van Zyl’s career highlights also include a first-place finish in the 2010 South African national under-23 road championships, a first-place finish in Stage 4 of the 2013 Tour of Rwanda and a first-place finish in Stage 5 of the 2015 Tour of Austria.
